  15. QUICK (1 key) COMMANDS
  16. ESC        - enter history edit mode
  17. ^L         - list the command history buffer
  18. ^R [n-m]   - repeat the last or 'n' through 'm'th commands
  19. ^W         - display the what and who message
  20. ^P         - toggle the prompt path string
  21. ^V         - make the cursor visible
  22. BS/^H      - erase the last character typed
  23. ^X/^U      - abort the current line being typed
  24. ^C         - abort the current running command
  25. ^D/^Z      - exit this program fast
  26. UNDO       - exit with a confirmation
  27. CLR/HOME   - clear the screen/home the cursor
  28. HELP       - display this help message

  31. date [mm/dd/yy] [hh:mm:ss]     - display or set the current date and/or time
  32. set [var=value ...]            - list all set variables or set 'var'iables
  33. unset var [var ...]            - unset or delete set 'var'iables
  34. echo [-n] [arg ...]            - echo 'arg'uments to the screen
  35. pause                          - pause until a carriage return is typed
  36. find [-n] pat file [file ...]  - find lines in 'file's containing 'pat'tern
  37. rez {-l | -m}                  - change the screen resolution
  38. color {-f | -b} [RGB]          - change the foreground or background color
  39. ls [-s] [-l] [-h] [d:][file]   - display directory information about 'file's
  40. df [-t] [d: ...]               - display the free space on drives

  54. HISTORY EDIT COMMANDS
  55. UA/-/k    display the previous history line (UA=up arrow)
  56. DA/+/j    display the next history line (DA=down arrow)
  57. LA/BS/h   move left one character (LA=left arrow)
  58. RA/SP/l   move right one character (RA=right arrow)
  59. 0         move to the first character of the current line
  60. ^         move to the first visible character of the current line
  61. $         move to the last character of the current line
  62.           (delimiters: word=non-alphanumeric, WORD=white space)
  63. w/W       move right to the beginning of a word/WORD
  64. e/E       move right to the end of a word/WORD
  65. b/B       move left (back) to the beginning of a word/WORD
  66. ~         change the case (if alphabetic) of the current character
  67. r         replace the current character with another single character
  68. x         cross out the current character
  69. d/D       delete the current character/to the end of line
  70.           (ESC terminates substitute/change/insert/append mode)
  71. s         substitute multiple characters for the current character
  72. c/C       change the current character/to the end of line
  73. i/I       start inserting characters before the current/first character
  74. a/A       start appending characters after the current/last character
  75. CR/LF     execute the current line

  80. ASH is an acronym for 'A SHell'.  It has some of the features I like best
  81. from the shell I use the most.  The ASH document file 'ash.doc' contains
  82. detailed information on ASH and its commands, and the pHELPq key has a few
  83. screens of information that are helpful.  ASH is shareware and you're
  84. welcome to copy it and pass it along to as many people as you want.  Please

  94. It's something that some of us (me), who prefer typing to clicking, needed
  95. to be productive.  It isn't perfect so please report any problems.  If you
  96. like ASH, you can report that too.  If you like it enough to use it on a
  97. regular basis you can even send along a few bucks.  This will put your name
  98. on the registered ASH user list and will enable me to notify you of any
  99. major bug fixes or new releases.  It will also help my wife appreciate the
